On the Road to Happiness: The Self-determined Will
In the last few weeks we have addressed three different levels of will:
- the instinctive will motivated by the fear of dying,
- the emotional will motivated by desires and cravings and the fear of
feeling bad and finally
- the mental/moral will motivated by the need to be right and
the fear of being wrong.
Once you have sufficiently grown these three wills, you
find yourself in the realm of the self-determined will.
You are now on the road to happiness...but you are not there yet!
You are motivated by challenges, goals and purposes.
And that seems perfectly wonderful.
Society has told you from the beginning: hard work will get
you to success and eventually to happiness. This is the only
way.
You see, I have had several clients like that who have spent most
of their lives developing their self-determined will.
I remember one client, Lisa. Her parents didn't accept anything
less than perfect behavior and results from her.
She had spent her life doing everything she possibly could
to succeed and become the best in every field she ever entered.
Many of you may think: yes, this is perfect. This is how every one of us
should be. This is the end of the road!
But, this is NOT the road to happiness!
You see, it would be just wonderful if in fact these successes made her
the happiest person she could be. But, because of all the efforts
she made, all the sacrifices she had to make over the years,
she often feels a lot of resentment, regrets, jealousy, and is not
fully happy.
Lisa doesn't think she reached the full success she deserves.
She resents others for their easy success.
You see at the core of her resistance was a fear to be like
every body else, to end up disappointing herself and her family.
She didn't want to confront her worst fear: being a normal human
being!
This was the fear motivating all the hours of work and effort she
has made in her life.
As you can feel, (allow yourself to feel what this person could
feel) you will conclude that this way of thinking does not lead
to true happiness.
In this state the ego takes over and dictates your behaviors,
thoughts, and affect your ability to ever experience true happiness.
There is always something that is not perfect. You keep looking
outside for proof of your success and you never find it. There is
always something else to achieve, buy, or become.
So, what are the beliefs at the core of this level of will?
Well, you see the premise of the self-determined person is
based on a series of misperceptions and erroneous beliefs:
One of them is that:
- You are small and insignificant unless you work hard at becoming
superior to others.
- If you are not superior, you become "normal" and therefore have
nothing to be proud of about yourself.
Do you recognize any of these beliefs affecting your view point?
Notice the lack of self love, of unconditional love for self ...and others.
****************************************************************
And the truth is, like Abraham-Hicks tells us over and over again:
You are Source energy, a spiritual being in a physical body!
You are a worthy being, just by existing, having chosen to come here
on this planet. You are worthy just because you exist!
You are God in disguise!
You have truly unlimited potential to be happy:
You can be, do or have anything you can imagine!
****************************************************************
You will need to choose your thoughts carefully, though.
This is the only condition for you to be the total
creator of your life.
So, none of these wills we talked about really help you
chose your thoughts freely.
But there IS a level of will that everyone can re-awaken.
--------------------------------------------------------
It is the Transcendent Will!
The Ultimate Level of Will!
--------------------------------------------------------
It is a will that is NOT motivated by:
- fear of dying -- survival instinct will
- desires, cravings and habits -- emotional will
- doctrines and beliefs of right and wrong- moral will
- your own fear to be insignificant or inferior--self-determined will
But simply by your decision to be, do, or have anything
you want, just because life would be more fun!
remember: Life is suppose to be fun!!!
In that level of will you are using your wisdom and compassion to make
decisions!
Your decisions are not tainted by past traumatic experiences,
craving you have, or other conditioning you have been through,
but just by your own pure sense of joy and excitement.
You decide in the void. Nothing affects your decision:
not the economy,
not your family,
not your past,
not your society,...
Nothing, just a pure decision!
Imagine the freedom! Imagine the potential for happiness!
Being the total creator of your universe.
Being the only one deciding what you really want based
on what really feels good and inspiring to you!
Next week I will give you an exercise to begin reawakening
your transcendent will and get you on the road to total freedom!
Warmly,
Colette
